Volkswagen’s Jetta, which has become an independent brand in China, is adding a new SUV to its model range. The brand, which has operated under the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture since 2019, has unveiled the new model, the Jetta VS8. Official images released by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have revealed the vehicle’s design and some technical specifications.
The new Volkswagen Jetta SUV, exclusively for the Chinese market, has been announced.
The Jetta VS8 has a distinct appearance from Volkswagen’s global offerings. Its front design, in particular, highlights details that depart from the brand’s current language. The large grille, which integrates with the body, is striking with its cross-patterned design. Compact LED headlights and a thin light strip extending above the grille complement this design. The gloss black air intakes at the bottom add a sporty look.

While the side profile features simpler lines, the shape that tapers towards the rear window and the prominent D-pillar add movement to the design. The rear end is complemented by horizontally arranged LED taillights and a light strip running through the center. The lower part of the two-tone rear bumper features visual details resembling dual exhaust outlets, but the vehicle likely has a single exhaust outlet.

The model is built on Volkswagen’s MQB platform. Its dimensions are similar to the Jetta VS7, currently sold in the Chinese market. The VS8 measures 4,629 millimeters in length, 1,851 millimeters in width, 1,624 millimeters in height, and 2,631 millimeters in wheelbase. These figures position the model in the mid-size SUV segment.
Under the hood of the Jetta VS8 is a 1.4-liter TSI gasoline engine. This engine will reportedly be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. An official launch date has not yet been announced, but the model is expected to go on sale in China before the end of 2025.
