5G speeds in Turkey are eagerly awaited. The 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies were allocated to operators in the 5G tender held on October 16, 2025. While 5G, which will be available on April 1, 2026, will theoretically reach speeds of 10 Gbps, it will offer download speeds of 300-1200 Mbps and upload speeds of 40-150 Mbps in actual use. So, how will these speeds be achieved? Here are the details.
Which frequencies will 5G speeds be offered?
The 700 MHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies are the most prominent in the 5G tender. 700 MHz offers broad coverage in rural areas and speeds of 40-100 Mbps. 3.5 GHz offers download speeds of 300-1200 Mbps in urban areas. Therefore, urban areas will experience higher speeds. However, the fastest mmWave frequency has not been put out to tender.

The 3.5 GHz frequency will be the main frequency for 5G in cities. This frequency can theoretically reach speeds of 1.4 Gbps. In real-world use, download speeds will range from 300-700 Mbps (80 MHz) or 400-1200 Mbps (100 MHz). Upload speeds will range from 40-150 Mbps. Proximity to the base station and the number of users will affect speeds.
The 700 MHz frequency will be used in rural areas. This frequency offers wide coverage, providing download speeds of 40-100 Mbps and upload speeds of 10-25 Mbps. These speeds will be sufficient for consuming 4K content and will eliminate issues such as freezing.
The mmWave frequency offers speeds of 3-10 Gbps, but its coverage is very limited. Thick walls and weather conditions weaken the signal. Furthermore, requiring a base station every 100 meters increases costs. Most devices in Turkey don’t support mmWave, so it wasn’t put out to tender.
