Almost two years ago, Meta-owned WhatsApp made message reactions widely available for Android, iOS and web users. Since then, the feature has received several updates and has been available in chats, channels, communities and even status updates.
Now the WhatsApp media viewer’s reaction interface is changing
With WhatsApp beta 2.24.10.7, the app added an easy way to react to media from the media viewer screen. Now, with the latest beta, WhatsApp is improving the feature even further.
With WhatsApp beta 2.24.11.18, WhatsApp has slightly changed the reaction interface on the media viewer screen. In beta 2.24.10.7, the media viewer screen featured an expanded Reply bar at the bottom and an icon for reactions on the right side.
When you click on the Reply button, your keyboard pops up and in-context replies are sent, while clicking on the emoji icon brings up your six most-used emojis. When you select an emoji reaction, it appears to the left of the reaction icon.
The revamped experience is still in beta, so it’s unclear when it will be widely available.
In addition to streamlining message reactions, WhatsApp also wants to simplify profile pictures. As part of beta version 2.24.11.17, WhatsApp was found to be working on a feature that would allow users to create new profile pictures using artificial intelligence.
The tool, which is currently not widely available, will make it easier for those who want to maintain privacy by not uploading personal photos, but still have the option to use images that reflect their own personality and choices.
