WhatsApp continues to receive features that enhance the messaging experience. Support for sending photos and videos in HD quality, which is already available on many competing platforms, will now be available in WhatsApp messaging.
WhatsApp gets HD photo and video support
According to the announcement shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, WhatsApp will allow users to send photos and videos without compromising resolution. The new update will roll out simultaneously to Android, iOS and web versions.
The change, which will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks, will allow WhatsApp users to send HD quality photos on Android, iOS or the web. Photos sent in HD mode will have an “HD” icon in the lower left corner.
Enabling the option to share high quality photos is left to users. After uploading a photo/video to the chat, simply tap the “HD” icon next to the editing tools. In this way, standard or HD quality photos can be sent.
On the other hand, if the person receiving the high quality photo has a bad internet connection, it will first be downloaded in the standard version. They will then be able to download it again in HD quality if they wish. However, it is unclear how much the difference between the file sizes will be.
WhatsApp will only allow sending HD photos in the first phase. However, video support will be available in the coming weeks.
The popular messaging platform is also working on features related to artificial intelligence. For example, with the new feature, WhatsApp will allow its users to create stickers with artificial intelligence.
