Meta periodically ends WhatsApp support for older models that are no longer able to run newer versions of the app. The company has recently shared a list of devices that will lose access to WhatsApp starting January 1, 2025.
Models losing WhatsApp support in 2025
Meta has decided to discontinue WhatsApp support for certain Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, and Sony models starting in 2025. To clarify, devices running Android KitKat or older versions will no longer have access to the app from January 1 onwards.

As mentioned above, the reason behind Meta’s periodic discontinuation of support for older devices is the continuous development of WhatsApp features. With new features being added to enhance the user experience, modern hardware is necessary for them to function properly.
Similarly, Apple is taking a similar approach, with WhatsApp support ending for iPhones running iOS 15.1 or older versions in May 2025.
