As competition intensifies in the technology world, Apple is preparing to make significant updates to its popular tracking device. While Xiaomi is also rumored to be entering this market, the latest leaks about the AirTag 2, eagerly awaited by Apple users, have emerged. Initially expected to be released this year, the device has reportedly been quietly delayed to the first half of 2026.
What features will the AirTag 2 offer?
When Apple’s next-generation tracking device is released, it will come with a number of innovations that will improve the user experience. Chief among these is a much faster and smoother pairing process. Also, the battery status, which can sometimes be confusing in the current model, will be reported in much more detail in the new model. Thus, instead of having to guess when the battery will run out, you will have clear information.

One of the most striking innovations of the device will be a feature called “Improved Moving.” Thanks to this feature, it seems likely that you will be able to see the precise location of the object you are tracking even when it is moving. It will also include a new technology that prevents signal interference in crowded environments and increases tracking accuracy.
It’s not yet clear whether these new features will come to existing AirTag models via a software update. However, the “Enhanced Precise Location” feature is highly likely to require a new ultrawideband (UWB) chip. This suggests that the feature will only be exclusive to the hardware-upgraded second-generation devices, meaning it won’t be available on older models.
Apple is also planning to update not only the tracking device but also its HomePod mini smart speaker. However, according to leaked information, this update will be more of an upgrade under the hood rather than a design change. The S5 chip found in the original 2020 model is expected to be replaced by the S10 chip in the new model.
While the new processor will improve the device’s performance, expectations shouldn’t be set too high. Despite the new chip, the speaker is not expected to support Apple Intelligence features. It seems Apple is taking smaller steps in its smart home strategy.
