For Windows 11 users, new updates can bring unexpected problems as well as improvements. The latest version numbered 27723, released to the Windows 11 Insider Canary channel last week, caused crashing problems for some users. Especially computers using old Nvidia graphics cards started to experience problems such as black screen problems, system freezes and various GPU errors.
Windows 11 update nightmare on old Nvidia graphics cards
The latest Canary version of Windows 11 has left old Nvidia graphics card users in a difficult situation. Version numbered 27723, released last week; causes black screen problems, system freezes and errors on Kepler-based graphics cards such as the GTX 970, Quadro K620 and GTX 600/700 series.
Microsoft stated in the notes it published that it is aware of the problem and that there is currently no solution. The only way for affected systems to recover is to revert to the previous Windows 11 Insider version using Windows recovery tools.
In addition to the Nvidia GPU issues, version 27723 has also introduced other bugs on some computers, such as update errors, game crashes, and authentication issues. Microsoft said it is working on fixes. However, it did not provide a date for when the graphics card issues will be resolved.
While Microsoft is working on a solution, Windows 11 Insiders using older Nvidia graphics cards will need to revert to the previous version to avoid issues such as black screens.
