Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s space company Blue Origin has announced a new crewed space flight planned for this spring. The 11-minute flight, organized under the New Shepard program, will be the company’s 11th crewed mission and 31st flight overall. Katy Perry, world-famous singer will be among the crew.
Katy Perry is going to space
This mission will be the first all-female space flight since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova traveled to space alone in 1963. The crew was selected by Jeff Bezos’s fiancée and journalist Lauren Sánchez, who will also be on the flight.
The team heading to space includes world-famous pop star Katy Perry, famous television host Gayle King, scientist and activist Amanda Nguyen, entrepreneur and aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, and director Kerianne Flynn.
According to Associated Press, Blue Origin announced its new space mission just weeks after allegations emerged that the company had laid off 10% of its employees. In an email sent to employees, CEO Dave Limp reportedly stated that the company had grown at an unsustainable rate, making cuts inevitable, and that there needed to be more focus on production.
