Xiaomi may have inadvertently revealed that it has already begun working on HyperOS 4, the next major release, while still completing the rollout of its current interface, HyperOS 3. An official announcement on its global bug report channel mentioned the brand’s upcoming major update.
HyperOS 4 May Arrive Sooner Than Expected
Item number 6 in Xiaomi’s latest weekly bug report addresses the issue of the system launcher being forced to close, stating: “The fix will be implemented in the upcoming OS4 Major Update.” The mention of “OS4” is thought to directly refer to the HyperOS 4 update.

This marks the first time Xiaomi has mentioned HyperOS 4 on such an official channel. While the bug report channel didn’t reveal any further details, the mention that fixes for issues experienced by multiple users will be included in the next major update suggests Xiaomi is already actively working on HyperOS 4. In fact, the update may arrive sooner than expected.
This year, Google released Android 16 earlier than usual, in June. Samsung quickly followed suit with the stable release in July. The tech giant is expected to follow a similar timeline for Android 17 (Android 17 is expected to be released in mid-2026). Therefore, a faster HyperOS 4 launch is definitely a possibility.
An early HyperOS 4 focus could also mean Xiaomi won’t have enough time for HyperOS 3.1. Therefore, it’s highly likely the brand will skip this intermediate upgrade and focus directly on HyperOS 4. (On the other hand, some leaks suggest HyperOS 3.1 will come to Android 16-based devices, while some older models remaining on Android 15 will skip this release, indicating Xiaomi prioritizes major releases that coincide with larger Android releases.)
At the time of writing, Xiaomi has not officially confirmed anything about HyperOS 4, including an early release. However, with dozens of devices waiting for HyperOS 3, mentioning “OS4” is considered an unusual and quite noteworthy development.
