Xiaomi announced its first electric vehicle, the SU7 model, in China in recent weeks. The official pricing of the vehicle, which is stated to have Tesla-rival technology and a Porsche-rival design, is currently unclear. However, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun accused price speculation of “trolling the medium.”
Xiaomi CEO: Stop trolling about SU7 price
As with its smartphones, many expected the Xiaomi SU7 to beat its rivals on price. However . However, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has hinted many times that the vehicle will be “a little more expensive” compared to expectations.
Speculation has increased a lot lately and started to create misinformation about official pricing. The CEO stated that he was trolling the real price, claiming that the fake prices were as low as 15 thousand dollars.
Lei Jun said in his post on social media, “Stop trolling. The price of the car will be neither 14 thousand dollars nor 21 thousand dollars. Show some respect for the technology behind the vehicle.”
Industry analysts believe the realistic target price to remain competitive in China’s growing electric vehicle market is around $40,000. However, previous leaks showed that SU7 would be around 50 thousand dollars. This means Xiaomi and Tesla will be in a similar position.
Xiaomi announced at its event last month that the vehicle will be offered with 3 different engine options: V6, V6S and V8. V6 and V6S models are currently in production and have 21 thousand RPM acceleration power. These engines produce 400 Nm and 500 Nm of torque respectively. It is stated that the V8 engine option will go into production in 2025.
