After its technology products, Xiaomi has now entered the real estate sector. The company has opened rental smart apartments called “Xiaomi Youth Apartments” for young engineers working on its large campuses in China. This new step indicates a remarkable change in the company’s human resources strategy.
Xiaomi has entered the real estate sector
The project, which was first implemented in Beijing, includes 2,658 apartments. Each of these 29-square-meter apartments is rented for $280 per month. The apartments, which are offered furnished, feature Xiaomi-branded smart home devices.

Basic living spaces such as bathrooms have been specially designed for each apartment. With this application, Xiaomi offers its employees not only housing, but also a living experience integrated into the brand.
The project has started by giving priority to young engineers graduating in 2023 and 2024. It has been reported that it will also open to 2022 graduates if there is space left. Xiaomi’s approach creates a model aimed at attracting new graduates directly to its own ecosystem.
The application process for the apartments is carried out through the Xiaomi application. Technical support and maintenance services are also provided through the same application. Employees are transported to the main campus with daily shuttles.
The company is also moving to a similar structure in its Nanjing campus. The apartments here are 55 square meters in size and consist of 566 apartments in total. In the statement made for Nanjing, it was stated that not only new graduates but all employees were given the right to apply. Xiaomi plans to offer a total of 5,000 apartments for the use of employees with both campuses.
Xiaomi’s new initiative shows that technology companies are moving towards a more holistic living space approach in their human resource retention strategies. The company considers technology-equipped residences not only as a shelter solution, but also as a loyalty-increasing element.
