China-based technology giant Xiaomi is entering a new era in its journey to produce its own mobile processors. The company announced that it will allocate a total of $7 billion in resources to its processor project called Xring over the next decade. This decision came after the unexpected performance of the new Xring O1 processor in tests.
Xiaomi to invest $7 billion in the chip sector
The history of the Xring project dates back to 2021. The initiative, which was launched with an initial investment of $1.9 billion at that time, reached a total of $2.8 billion with an additional support of approximately $900 million in 2024. With Xiaomi’s current strategy, this figure will rise to $9.8 billion within ten years.

The first chip developed by the company so far, the Xring O1, was designed with a 3-nanometer production process. The test results indicate that the processor can compete with Qualcomm’s high-end model Snapdragon 8 Elite.
The first test of the Xring O1 in the field will be given with the Xiaomi 15s Pro model. The user experience and overall performance of this device will determine the next steps in the company’s chip development strategy.
Xiaomi also aims to reduce its dependence on Qualcomm and MediaTek, which it has been dependent on for many years in the mobile chip field. The investments made in this direction are considered as part of the company’s plans to end external dependency over time.
