While smartphone manufacturers are giving Android 14 to their popular models, Google seems to have accelerated its work for Android 15. New information reveals that Android 15 will expand Bluetooth capabilities.
Bluetooth-based audio sharing may be possible with Android 15
It was stated that Google will support the Bluetooth Auracast standard with the new Android version. This means that Android devices will gain Bluetooth supported audio sharing features. So what is Auracast and what does it do?
Auracast, seen in the Android 14 beta version, is basically used for “audio sharing”. It allows devices to share and receive multiple sounds at the same time over the Bluetooth LE standard. This allows you to transfer podcasts, music and all files in audio format.
The code fragment noticed by Android developers showed that Android may soon gain Auracast feature. Google will add an Audio Sharing page in Settings, allowing users to receive/send such files.
According to the code fragment, a QR code is generated for other devices to connect. This essentially means that Auracast will work similarly to the Share Nearby feature. Android 15’s Auracast support could make multi-user audio sharing seamless compared to standard Bluetooth.
Auracast has been available as a Bluetooth standard for several years, but device support has been limited. Built-in support with Android 15 could improve communication between phones and accessories.
