Thanks to the PCI Express standard, the world of computing has grown rapidly in recent years. PCI Express 6.0, which allows more data transfer over a single bandwidth, is currently provided by copper cables. In this context, the revolutionary optical PCI Express 6.0 technology has been developed.
Optically connected PCI Express 6.0 becomes a reality
Nubis Communications, a leading provider of high-density optical connectivity solutions, and Alphawave IP, a manufacturer of high-speed connectivity silicon, have formed a new partnership. Accordingly, the two companies will soon unveil PCI Express 6.0 technology that works over optical connectivity.
The new technology, which will be showcased at DesignCon, was developed using joint products from the two companies. Nubis’ XT1600 linear optical engine enables 64GT/s traffic in a single band. The Alphawave Semi PCIe subsystem can be connected to the XT1600 to create an optical waveform.
PCI Express 6.0 with optical connection to be introduced at the fair; will power the next generation data center architectures. It will extend the connection distances of giant server centers. Despite the same bandwidth, it will provide much more access compared to copper.
According to Nubis and Alphawave IP, optical transmission will breathe new life into AI-focused data centers. It will enable larger AI/ML clusters. This will increase the speed of development of AI models.
Nubis’ high-density XT1600 optical engine integrates 16 lanes of PCIe Gen 6 connectivity into a single package. Thanks to linear drive technology, it can directly transmit PCIe 6.0 signals. This reduces costs.
