Apple’s electric car project, Apple Car, was canceled earlier this week. Nearly a decade of research and development has come to an end. The tech giant had spent 10 billion dollars on this project. This project, which will never be real, had a very meaningful name within the company.
They call the Apple Car project “Titanic” within the company
Within the company, the Apple Car project was called “Project Titan”. However, it is reportedly referred to as “Project Titanic” by employees who don’t believe in the project and think it will be canceled as it really is.
Apple has never officially admitted to trying to build a car, but many leaks and job postings over the years have revealed much of the work. The project appears to have been hampered by a series of personnel changes and disagreements in senior positions over what exactly the Apple Car should be.
Zadesky, the original initiator, wanted to create an electric vehicle to rival Tesla, while former designer Jony Ive wanted to create a car with more autonomous capabilities.
Apple’s project team has grown to more than 2,000 people. The team included expert engineers previously employed at organizations such as NASA and Porsche. The troubled project was eventually overwhelmed by many challenges, such as how to produce the vehicle.
But there appear to be some positives, as some of the people involved in the Apple Car project plan to transfer what they have learned from Apple’s autonomous and AI technologies to their current and future devices.
But it’s too early to say whether this will be worth $10 billion. What do you think about the project’s meaningful name within the company? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
