BYD has announced a partnership with Huawei to develop autonomous driving technology for its luxury off-road vehicle brand Fang Cheng Bao. The two companies will conduct joint research and development of intelligent driving solutions specific to off-road use cases.
BYD and Huawei collaborate in autonomous driving
The first vehicle to use the technology developed by BYD and Huawei will be the upcoming Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 SUV. The Bao 8 will debut later this year equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 3.0 autonomous driving system.
The advanced system offers features such as mapless navigation, collision avoidance and parking for every scenario. The system aims to pioneer autonomous driving functionality in off-road environments and overcome obstacles.
In addition to autonomous driving, the luxury SUV will also be equipped with Huawei’s HiCar vehicle platform. This will allow users to pair their smartphones with the infotainment system and access smart mobility services.
The partnership is Huawei’s first venture in developing autonomous driving solutions for off-road vehicles. Through their collaboration, BYD and Huawei also aim to develop the world’s first dedicated off-road intelligent driving system.
This technology will expand beyond the Bao 8 to other Fang Cheng Bao models in the future. As BYD expands its sub-brand, Huawei continues to grow its automotive solutions business. The cooperation also demonstrates the ambitions of both companies in the areas of electrification and autonomous driving technology.
