Meta has rolled out a significant update to its Ray-Ban smart glasses, introducing live translation capabilities and expanding the reach of its Meta AI assistant. This enhancement allows users to engage in real-time conversations across English, French, Italian, and Spanish, with translations delivered directly through the glasses’ audio system.

Initially part of Meta’s Early Access Program, the live translation feature is now accessible to all users in markets where the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are sold. Users can download language packs in advance, enabling offline translation—a convenient option for travelers without constant internet access.

In addition to live translation, Meta has expanded its AI assistant’s availability to seven more European countries, including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. This expansion follows earlier delays due to regulatory concerns over data protection and privacy.

Beyond translation, the update introduces several new functionalities:

    • Visual AI Capabilities: The Meta AI assistant can now interpret visual inputs, providing information about objects the user is viewing. This feature is set to become available in supported EU countries starting next week.
    • Music App Access: Integration with music apps like Spotify and Apple Music is expanding beyond North America, though AI-driven music queries remain limited to English users.

Meta has also unveiled new color combinations for the Ray-Ban Meta Skyler frames, including shiny chalky gray with sapphire Transitions lenses and shiny black with clear or green tints, offering users more style options.

With these updates, Meta continues to enhance the functionality of its smart glasses, aiming to provide users with a more seamless and interactive experience. The company plans to launch the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in additional markets, including Mexico, India, and the UAE, though specific release dates have not been announced.
