The Spider-Man series is one of the most successful superhero games of recent years. Sony and Insomniac Games worked on an online game to capitalize on this popularity. However, Spider-Man: The Great Web project was canceled. Finally, the game’s trailer leaked.
Online Spider-Man: The Great Web was canceled?
A trailer that hit the internet this week revealed what Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man: The Great Web from Insomniac Games. The trailer shows various heroes, such as Spider-Gwen, battling enemies like Doctor Octopus and Venom.
Most of the character models are similar to Insomniac’s previous Spider-Man games. Spider-Gwen, however, seems to have been designed specifically for this project. Judging by Venom and Peter Parker’s Symbiote suit, The Great Web would be released after Spider-Man 2.
The canceled online game was first revealed late last year. Hackers managed to infiltrate Insomniac Games and got their hands on the company’s roadmap and shared the details of the game. The leak also revealed Insomniac’s plans for a game starring Venom, Wolverine and the X-Men.
It remains unclear when The Great Web is in development and its release plans. However, the leak reveals that Insomniac worked on the game for several years before shelving the project.
The latest leaked trailer offers the first, and perhaps only, concept of what Insomniac has to offer in a multiplayer Spider-Man adventure. Time will tell if the company will work on an online Spider-Man game again.
