Images generated by artificial intelligence have become an important part of today’s social media trends. Many users actively use various AI tools to participate in these popular movements. Features like ChatGPT’s Images section or Google Photos’ Remix and “Generate with AI” make it easier to recreate images in trendy styles.
However, the necessity of uploading a photo every time a new image is to be created creates a significant point of friction for users. OpenAI is preparing to take an important step to solve this problem. Soon, ChatGPT may allow users to upload a “reference photo.”
How Will the Reference Photo Feature Work?
OpenAI is working on a new option to facilitate image generation with ChatGPT. Thanks to this feature, users will be saved from the obligation of uploading a new image every time by adding a single reference photo.

This innovation will provide great convenience, especially when creating avatars or other AI images in line with trends. In this way, users will be able to obtain the images they want much faster and more practically.
-
The feature was discovered in the 1.2026.104 beta version of the ChatGPT app for Android. Although it is currently passive within the code, it is stated that it can be activated through investigations.
-
It was learned that OpenAI plans to add this feature under ChatGPT’s “Memories” section. Users will be able to select an existing photo from the phone gallery or take a new selfie as a reference photo.
-
The added reference photo can be viewed later and replaced with another photo if desired. Additionally, a trash can icon indicates that users can easily delete their photos.
However, unlike general memories, ChatGPT may not initially have the option to remember this photo directly from previous chats. Although the feature’s interface has been activated, it is stated that it cannot yet be used to create new images.
It is a matter of curiosity how this new feature will affect the user experience. Would you consider using this reference photo feature? Share your views with us.
