The transformation experienced in the memory sector directly affects DDR4 technology. With the widespread use of DDR5, manufacturers directed their investments to new generation solutions, while the supply of DDR4 memory began to decrease rapidly. This development was soon reflected in prices. According to May data, there were price increases of up to 50 percent in DDR4 memory.
DDR4 memory prices are increasing
While the price of 8GB capacity DDR4 modules increased by 56 percent in one month, this rate was recorded as 45 percent in 16GB modules. The basis of this increase is the withdrawal of large manufacturers such as Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix from DDR4 production. These companies have directed their production capacity to DDR5 and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) technologies.

The change in focus of manufacturers causes DDR4 production to become both costly and inefficient. The restriction of supply becomes even more apparent, especially with the inability of small manufacturers based in China and Taiwan to meet demand. In addition, various restrictions imposed on Chinese manufacturers make it difficult to balance DDR4 production in the global supply chain.
According to market analysis, current price increases are expected to continue in the coming quarters. According to the latest information, new increases of 10 to 20 percent in DDR4 prices are likely. Currently, the price difference between DDR4 and DDR5 memory has narrowed to only around 7 percent. This situation causes DDR5 to stand out as a more attractive alternative.
