20-year-old Facebook targets young people
Facebook Vice President Tom Alison revealed the new goals of the social media platform. Accordingly, the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities and product updates will focus on re-popularizing Facebook among young users.
Alison stated that young user participation on Facebook has reached the highest point in the last three years. In this context, she stated that there are more than 40 million active users between the ages of 18-29 in the US and Canada alone. She emphasized that more time is spent on the platform thanks to the renewed video content, Reels and the new vertical video player.
The new AI recommendations allow Facebook to suggest better content on Reels and the video player. The company also said it is testing advanced AI models that learn from large data sets to strengthen video recommendations.
Other features for young people include apps connected to Facebook. Facebook Dating, which now has more than 1.8 billion monthly users, and Marketplace, where one in four teens shop, continue to grow, according to the company.
Facebook seems to want to go back to its roots by focusing on young users. Today, it aims to capture the new generation by using both old and new social media features.
