The iPhone 16 Pro series is coming with larger screens, a dedicated shooting button, and many more new features. However, the most notable innovations will be significant improvements in the camera hardware of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Here are the four new camera features you can expect this year:

Advanced ultra-wide camera
According to many reports, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a 48 MP ultra-wide camera this year. This will be a significant upgrade from the current 12 MP ultra-wide camera on the iPhone 15 Pro. This change will offer much better shooting capabilities, especially in low-light environments. Images will be more detailed, and colors will be more vibrant. Additionally, the new 48 MP ultra-wide camera may have the ability to record spatial video in 4K resolution.
Extended optical zoom
Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro Max uses a new tetraprism camera design that provides 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. With the iPhone 16 series, Apple will extend this upgraded tetraprism camera to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro as well. This means that both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer at least 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. Additionally, according to a rumor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max may come with a “periscope ultra-long telephoto combination” that can provide more than 5x optical zoom.

Anti-reflective coating
A common problem many iPhone camera users are well aware of is lens flare when shooting in bright light environments. Apple is working on a solution for this problem for the iPhone 16 Pro. According to a rumor, Apple is testing “atomic layer deposition” (ALD) lens coating technology. This anti-reflective coating can be applied to the camera lenses of the iPhone 16 Pro to minimize the effects of internal reflections.
Improved main camera
Finally, the iPhone 16 Pro will use a new main camera sensor from Sony for better low-light performance. Sony’s latest stacked sensor technology arranges the photodiodes and pixel transistors in separate layers, allowing for more light capture. This sensor captures twice as much light compared to existing camera sensors, resulting in less noise and better photos.
