Hyundai Motor Group’s parts manufacturing unit Hyundai Mobis has taken a revolutionary step in electric vehicle safety. The company officially announced that it has developed a battery system that can extinguish fires on its own. The new-generation system detects battery fires much earlier, intervenes in the dangerous area and prevents possible disasters.
Hyundai has designed a fire-extinguishing electric vehicle battery
The technology called “Battery System Assembly (BSA)” includes hardware components such as battery management system (BMS), fire extinguishers and battery housing. The basis of the system is that BMS constantly monitors the values of battery cells such as temperature, voltage and pressure.

In this way, when any abnormality is detected, the area at risk of fire is determined and a special fire suppressant that only intervenes in that area is activated. The fire extinguishing agent contains an active ingredient five times the capacity of a standard household fire extinguisher.
In addition, the system not only suppresses flames, but also prevents the spread of fire by cutting off the flow of electricity. Hyundai Mobis stated that this technology not only meets the safety standards for electric vehicles; He also states that it can overcome strict regulations in markets such as Europe, China and India.
Although it has not yet been announced which Hyundai and Kia models this system will be used in, it is expected that the technology will be integrated into mass production and attract great interest in the global market.
