A long-unsolved missing person case in Spain’s Soria province recently made progress thanks to an image captured by Google Maps’ Street View. The image showed a man loading a white bag into the trunk of his car, which became a key lead in the investigation into a person reported missing last year.
Google Maps Leads to Clues in the Case
In November 2023, a man was reported missing by his cousin. The report noted that while the cousin had been in regular contact with the missing person via phone, the tone and content of the messages eventually raised suspicion. It was claimed that the missing person had moved to another location, but the unusual style of the messages led the cousin to involve the police.

During the investigation, an image from Google Maps (seen above) helped provide clues. The photo captured a man standing behind a red car, placing a large white package into the trunk.
Further investigation revealed that the missing man had been romantically involved with a woman, who, along with another partner, was implicated in the case. Both suspects were taken into custody, and their home was searched. Human remains were discovered buried in a cemetery, believed to belong to the missing person. Detailed forensic analysis is ongoing.
Spanish police stated that while the Google Street View image did not play a pivotal role in solving the case, it was a significant element in supporting the ongoing investigation. This isn’t the first time Google Maps has assisted in law enforcement cases; it previously provided critical leads in tracking down a dangerous criminal in Italy.
