MediaTek has announced its new chip, Dimensity 8450, which will strengthen its position in the mobile processor market. The processor, which was introduced before the flagship Dimensity 9500, focuses on mid-to-high-end phones. The new model, which comes as the successor to the Dimensity 8400, will offer remarkable improvements in productive artificial intelligence, game performance and image processing.
Dimensity 8450 processor announced
Dimensity 8450 is produced with TSMC’s second-generation 4nm production process. The processor, which has an eight-core structure, has one 3.25GHz Cortex-X4, three 3.0GHz Cortex-A720 and four 2.1GHz Cortex-A520 cores.

On the graphics side, a seven-core Mali-G720 MC7 GPU operating at a frequency of 1300 MHz is used. With this hardware combination, smoother frame rates and lower latency are targeted, especially in games. This performance is supported by the new StarSpeed Engine graphics engine.
The image processing unit in the processor also draws attention. Thanks to the zero-latency ISP architecture, clearer and faster results can be obtained in HDR shooting and live broadcasts. The processor supports camera sensors up to 320MP resolution. This contributes especially to increasing photo and video performance.
On the artificial intelligence side, the processor works with the Agentic AI Engine integrated on the NPU 880. This structure enables the processing of generative artificial intelligence applications and large language models (LLM) on the device.
The hardware has been developed to enable GenAI features to work on the device without the need for an internet connection. Thus, it is possible to process personal data without exporting it.
On the energy efficiency side, the UltraSave 3.0+ technology that comes with the new generation 5G modem stands out. This system aims to extend battery life by reducing energy consumption during connection. The first phone model to use the new processor was the Oppo Reno14 Pro.
