Artificial intelligence has been involved in almost every aspect of our lives since the first day it became generally available. Artificial intelligence is generally beneficial to everyday life. However, it is as harmful as it is beneficial. In particular, scammers have succeeded in copying web pages and fooling people with artificial intelligence. However, recent developments show that a new security vulnerability has emerged in ChatGPT.
DDoS attack was discovered with ChatGPT!
Artificial intelligence, which has become widespread in daily life for a long time, initially with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, has become indispensable both in students’ homework and in the reports prepared by employees in their business life. Almost every day, the debate on whether artificial intelligence is beneficial or harmful in human life continues. While organizations integrate their systems into artificial intelligence, cyber security experts continue to research the sectors where artificial intelligence is involved. As a result of the latest research, it was revealed that cyber attacks can be made with ChatGPT with several methods.

In a recent post on GitHub, researcher Benjamin Flesch reveals a ChatGPT API vulnerability that allows attackers to use a DDoS attack to send multiple connection requests. The vulnerability basically consists of being able to execute HTTPS POST requests to a specific endpoint using the ChatGPT API. Since there is no limit to the number of connections the user can provide through URL parameters, malicious attackers can launch as many attacks on the same URL as they want. Unlimited requests that can be sent using the ChatGPT API are basically considered as DDoS attacks.
Benjamin Flesch says that OpenAI’s solution to the problem is to limit the number of requests per user, so that no one can maliciously launch a DDoS attack. At the same time, the researcher says that he has reported the problem and its solution to OpenAI and that the problem will be solved as soon as possible. This is not the first time that AIs like ChatGPT have been misused, and it is unlikely to be the last. However, as long as independent researchers continue to report such situations, it is not expected to be a big problem. OpenAI is expected to make an official statement about the ChatGPT vulnerability.
