Apple Watch SE coming in an affordable hard plastic case
Apple announced the more affordable Watch SE alongside the Watch Series 6 for the first time in 2020. The company designed the Apple Watch SE with lower specifications than other watches. Carrying the same aluminum case and display as the Apple Watch Series 6, the watch went on sale in 2020 at an affordable price starting at $279. This price dropped to $249 with the 2nd generation Watch SE introduced in 2022. Watch SE models, which also use the processor of the previous generation, do not support many features such as measuring blood oxygen and ECG, temperature detection and fast charging.
Mark Gurman, known for his highly consistent Apple-related predictions, says that the Apple Watch SE model with a hard plastic case is becoming more likely every day. The company updates the Watch SE series every two years. This increases the likelihood that the new Apple Watch SE 3 will be released this year. With the new plastic case, Apple says it’s targeting kids while lowering prices. There are currently two options according to analysts.

In the first option, the company could switch to a hard plastic chassis, lower production costs, add a few features like an always-on display, and prices could still start at $249. In the second option, the company could lower prices to $199 or $229. According to reports, the upcoming Apple Watch SE 3rd generation will come with the S9 chip currently used by the Watch Series 9. Analysts predict that the Watch Series 10 and Watch SE 3 will be introduced this fall with the new iPhone 16 series.
