Samsung, one of the most successful manufacturers in the smartphone market, continues to improve itself in the camera field. It has made a name for itself especially with the 108 Megapixel camera it produced a few years ago and the 200 Megapixel sensor it introduced this year, which is included in the 23 Ultra. But this time Samsung has developed a full 440 Megapixel camera, leaving everyone’s mouths open with question marks in mind.
Samsung is preparing its 440 Megapixel camera for S25!
According to the news that emerged today, Samsung is preparing 3 new camera sensors for the next generation smartphones. In fact, the mass production process for the first of these, the 1.6μm GN6 50 Megapixel, has already started.
In second place is the 0.6μm HP7 200 Megapixel. In third place is the HU1 440 Megapixel sensor, whose development will continue until the second half of 2024. This will be a first not only in the history of the company but also in the history of the world. And we will see it in smartphones. So what does the rise in these numbers mean for us?
But this is actually not the most important detail. There are other factors that directly affect performance, such as sensor size, pixel size and the quality of the lens used. Even the image processing capability (software and hardware) and dynamic range of the phone or camera are important.
We saw the biggest example of this in the 108 Megapixel sensor produced by Samsung. The company first allowed Xiaomi to use this camera module. Then it sold it to other Android brands.
But even though they all came with Samsung’s 108 Megapixel camera, the difference in quality between photos and videos was huge. Many of them even lagged far behind the iPhone models with 12 Megapixel cameras introduced at the time.
Then we saw Samsung’s new 200 Megapixel camera in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. But according to DXOMARK, this device lagged behind the iPhone 48 Pro series, Google Pixel 14, Google Pixel 7, Huawei P50/P60 Pro, Oppo Find X6 and Honor Magic 5 Pro, all of which have 14 Megapixel cameras.
Therefore, although it clearly and clearly provides an advantage in some cases in a phone or camera, we see that the Megapixel value in general does not mean much in reality. Moreover, not 200 Megapixels, 108 Megapixels is a very sufficient resolution.
But instead of trying to perfect its 108 and 200 Megapixel cameras, Samsung prefers to produce a new 440 Megapixel camera sensor. Mass production is rumored to start in the second half of 2024. This means we could see it in the S25 at the earliest.
