Volkswagen has introduced its new Passat 430PHEV model, specially developed for the Chinese market. The model, developed in collaboration with SAIC, will be an affordable option in the plug-in hybrid category. The vehicle, which is offered for sale with only one equipment package, attracts attention with its price of approximately $ 29,800.
The affordable Volkswagen Passat is coming
The Passat 430PHEV comes only with the “Hybrid Business Edition” equipment level. In this new strategy, many comfort and driver support equipment have been abandoned in order to reduce costs. In the new Passat, which has a simpler structure compared to the 2023 model, 16-inch versions were preferred instead of 17-inch wheels.
In addition, the vehicle has gained a minimalist appearance with standard door handles and less flashy exterior details. The blue logo, LED headlights and chrome-framed windows specific to PHEV models at the front also attract attention. In the rear, the L-shaped light strip connecting the stop lights and the hidden exhaust outlets highlight the hybrid structure.
The simplification is also noticeable in the interior. Electrically folding side mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, Apple CarPlay support, leather upholstery, seat heating system, electrical seat adjustment and passenger seat height adjustment are not offered in this model.
In addition, significant cuts have been made to the safety and driving assistance systems. The vehicle does not have advanced driver assistance systems such as parking sensors, surround view cameras, ultrasonic or millimeter wave radars, or even adaptive cruise control.
The vehicle has a hybrid system consisting of a 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine and an electric motor. This system, which produces a total of 210 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, works with a 6-speed dual-clutch wet-type automatic transmission. Thanks to the 13 kWh lithium-ion battery, a range of 63 kilometers can be achieved with only electric energy.
