tvOS 27.2 Update Enhances Apple TV 4K with New Features

Apple releases tvOS 27.2 for Apple TV 4K, introducing random screensavers, ASL/BSL support, and enhanced photo library customization.

Apple is set to roll out the tvOS 27.2 update for Apple TV 4K users globally next week. This new version introduces a range of enhancements, from improved screensavers to expanded accessibility options. The update aims to personalize the Apple TV 4K experience, bringing significant improvements particularly in visual content presentation and viewing convenience. The Release Candidate (RC) version of the update is already available, with the full public release anticipated shortly for all compatible devices.

Users will benefit from more flexible screensaver management and a more inclusive viewing environment thanks to the addition of new sign language support features on the platform.

    • The tvOS 27.2 update enables random playback of screensaver content.
    • American and British Sign Language support is integrated into the Apple TV app.
    • Users can select specific photos to be used as custom screensavers.

Screensavers Now Offer Random Display Options

Apple is fundamentally altering its screensaver system, which previously required users to select only one category, such as Aerials, Memories, Portraits, or Snoopy. The new ‘Shuffle’ option introduced with tvOS 27.2 allows content from all categories to be displayed sequentially throughout the day. This enables users to enjoy their favorite aerial shots while also viewing personal memories or aesthetic content from other categories on their screens.

Sign Language Support is Now Available

A significant step forward in accessibility is the integration of sign language options within the player controls of the Apple TV app. This feature, available for select movies and TV shows, offers users American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) options. This development, approved by Sigmund Judge, makes content more accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers, fostering a more inclusive viewing experience.

Personal Photo Libraries Can Be Customized

Another key innovation in the tvOS 27.2 update relates to the management of personal photo libraries. When creating screensavers within the Memories and Portraits categories, users can now select specific photos without needing to grant access to their entire library. This provides a practical solution that enhances privacy and gives users greater control over the content displayed on their screens.

Siri AI and HomePod Features Are Expected

Further innovations are anticipated within the Apple ecosystem in the near future. Exciting features such as Siri AI and four-speaker HomePod surround sound setups are planned for release alongside the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K on November 13th. While Siri AI support will also be available for second and third-generation Apple TV 4K models, this feature is not included in the current tvOS 27.2 version. The full release of the update is expected to significantly enrich the Apple TV 4K experience.
