Many Android users tend to be staunchly against iPhones, just as iPhone users can be against Android devices. However, there are some who are always open to switching between platforms. In this survey conducted within this group, users were questioned about whether the presence of a USB-C port would incentivize them to consider getting an iPhone 15.
Nearly half of the 1000 Android users surveyed stated that they would purchase an iPhone 15 for the sake of the USB-C port
The iPhone 15 series will be the first devices to feature USB-C charging ports, replacing the Lightning port. This shift to USB-C is a significant step forward for Apple in terms of benefits it will offer to iPhone users.
A new survey indicates that the adoption of USB-C may also convince current iPhone users to upgrade. Moreover, current Android users might find the idea of switching to an iPhone more appealing due to Apple’s move to USB-C.
SellCell, an American telecommunications company, conducted the survey by asking the same questions to over 1,000 iPhone users and over 1,000 Android users.
The company found that about 63% of iPhone owners intend to upgrade to the iPhone 15 due to the USB-C port. Of those planning to upgrade, nearly 37% mentioned they would do so because they could use a single charging cable for their iPhones, Macs, and iPads. Another 30% believed that iPhones would be compatible with non-Apple chargers.
More than 38% of users who said that the USB-C charging feature would not sway them towards purchasing an iPhone 15 stated they were content with their current iPhones. 31% mentioned that the new connection port would not influence their decision to upgrade.
Interestingly, about 66% of iPhone owners told SellCell that they would upgrade to the iPhone 15 regardless of when.
Looking at Android users, SellCell discovered that over 44% of Android device owners said they would purchase the iPhone 15 because of its USB-C charging capability. Approximately 36% of these individuals mentioned that the new phones would be compatible with chargers used by non-Apple devices. 27% stated that customers could use a single cable for iPhone, Mac, and iPad.
As for Android owners who do not want to upgrade to the iPhone 15 due to USB-C, approximately 74% said they were satisfied with their current Android phones.
Overall, only 34% of Android participants said they would consider buying an iPhone 15 when upgrading their phones. Previously, 44% had stated that the transition to USB-C would motivate them to upgrade to the iPhone 15.
