Under pressure from US sanctions, Huawei continues its competition in the field of artificial intelligence processors with its Ascend 920 model. The new generation chips, designed and manufactured in China, are positioned as a direct competitor to Nvidia’s H20 model.
Huawei is ambitious in the artificial intelligence race with Ascend 920
The company’s previous model, the Ascend 910C, was at a level that could compete with the Nvidia H10. Now, the Ascend 920 is positioned against Nvidia’s flagship in artificial intelligence, the H20. The production of the Ascend 920 will be carried out by Chinese semiconductor manufacturer SMIC.

The chip, developed with a 6-nanometer production process; reaches 900 TFLOPS of artificial intelligence processing power and provides 4000 GB/s bandwidth. According to this data, the Ascend 920 will be one of the highest-performance processors designed and manufactured entirely in China.
Huawei, whose access to advanced semiconductor technologies has been limited due to US sanctions, aims to reduce external dependency by completely moving its production chain to China. The performance level of the new processor will be more clearly understood after comparisons with the Nvidia H20.
Nvidia, on the other hand, is experiencing serious problems in terms of product supply and sales volume due to increasing embargoes. Especially in the Chinese market, Huawei’s expansion with the Ascend series could mean a significant loss of income for Nvidia.
In which projects and data centers the Ascend 920 will be used will become clear in the coming months. So what do you think about this? You can easily share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
