As you know, the history of advertising becomes much more colorful with rival companies throwing jabs at each other: In the past, we’ve seen entertaining advertising battles like Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola or Mercedes vs. BMW. Now, Oppo has added to this tradition with an interesting approach by throwing a jab at Apple. Here are the details…
Oppo Took a Jab at Apple’s ‘Shot on iPhone’ Campaign!
As you may know, Apple has long run a highly successful advertising campaign using the slogan ‘Shot on iPhone,’ showcasing impressive photos taken with an Apple iPhone on billboards and building facades.
Chinese tech and smartphone manufacturer Oppo has taken a playful jab at this slogan through its official social media accounts with an interesting new campaign.
As part of the promotional campaign for the Oppo A60, the company shared a video on its Instagram and YouTube channels. In the video, they hammer a nail into a wall using the A60, with a caption reading, ‘A phone should not only be strong enough to survive a fall but also strong enough to hammer a nail into a brick. So it has to be the OPPO A60. Warning: This nail was hammered with an OPPO A60!’—taking a clear jab at Apple.
In the text and video, Oppo pokes fun at Apple, but at the bottom of the video, the company makes it clear that the video is for reference and experimental results do not guarantee product performance. Essentially, Oppo warns users who might be inspired by the video to hammer nails into walls with their phones.
The promotional video and posters released by Oppo quickly went viral on social media. What do you think about this? Don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section or via our social media channels.
