At yesterday’s Let Loose event by Apple, many new products were introduced, including the 11 and 13-inch iPad Air and iPad Pro models. While Apple doesn’t hesitate to utilize all technologies in the new tablet models, a feature may have revealed a detail about future iPhone models, especially the iPhone 16. So, will the iPhone 16 series exclusively support eSIM? Here are the details…
Upcoming iPhone models worldwide might only support eSIM
The eSIM feature for the iPhone 15 series introduced last September is only available in the US without a physical SIM card slot. Models that come to our country have two SIMs, one physical and one eSIM. However, the changes made in the new iPads suggest a new claim for the iPhone 16 and beyond.
Previous iPad versions with cellular capabilities had a physical SIM slot, but in yesterday’s Air and Pro models, only the eSIM feature is available worldwide. This change suggests the possibility of a similar change for the iPhone 16 series to be introduced this year.
The Cellular versions of the new M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro introduced by Apple are no longer compatible with physical SIM cards. The company, which has already fully transitioned to eSIM functionality in the US market, may announce the iPhone 16 series globally by removing the physical SIM slot altogether.
Even though most carriers in the Chinese market don’t offer eSIM support, the new iPads don’t have a physical slot. This indicates Apple’s determination, potentially leading to the iPhone 16 series being introduced with full eSIM support.
What do you think? Do you believe that the iPhone 16, to be introduced by Apple, will only come with eSIM support? How do you think this situation will be received in our country? Share your thoughts in the comments.
