Sony continues to require a PlayStation Network (PSN) account for games it publishes on Steam despite criticism from PC gamers. Although the company prefers to remain silent on this issue; Sony COO and CFO Hiroki Totoki addressed this issue.
COO Totoki acknowledged the reactions to the PSN account requirement, stating that the company considers it necessary ‘to ensure game order and for users to enjoy games safely’. He emphasised the importance of some restrictions and rules to provide the best gaming experience.

Totoki said that the PSN account requirement is especially necessary in online productions. However, Sony also applies this policy to single-player PC games. For example, the PC version of God of War Ragnarök and Spider-Man 2 require a PSN account.
The company even removed Horizon Zero Dawn from stores with the release of the Remastered version, which requires a PSN account. This leads to additional account requirements and the lack of sales in some regions without PSN.
As Sony continues to bring PlayStation-exclusive titles to PC, it seems that the mandatory PSN account debate will continue. While PC gamers are voicing their concerns, the company is defending its stance.
