US President Biden and his administration team recently met with leaders from technology companies such as Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Accordingly, Biden discussed the growing impacts of artificial intelligence on energy and computing infrastructure.
Tech giants met with Biden for the impacts of artificial intelligence
At the meeting, topics such as energy consumption of AI, data center capacity, semiconductor production and grid capacity were discussed. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, emphasized that AI is becoming increasingly intelligent and therefore requires large amounts of energy and infrastructure.
Companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic shared their analyses on the economic impact of big data centers in different states. OpenAI drew attention to the employment and economic growth that potential facilities in states such as California, Texas and Pennsylvania will create.
Technology leaders attending the meeting said that public and private sector support will be needed to meet rapidly growing infrastructure needs. The Biden administration wants to strengthen US leadership in artificial intelligence. Accordingly, it aims to create jobs with investments in data center and computing infrastructure.
The White House announced after the meeting that it will establish a new intergovernmental task force to coordinate policies on these issues. The meeting included Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, and officials from the National Security Council and the Vice President’s office.
