Tesla’s budget-friendly electric car project, which has been on the agenda for a long time, has been postponed once again. Leaks regarding the work carried out under the leadership of CEO Elon Musk indicate that the vehicle’s release could be postponed until early 2026.
Affordable Tesla model postponed again
A few years ago, Tesla announced that it was working on a new electric vehicle model that would cost around $25,000. The model, codenamed “Unboxed”, was expected to play a key role in the company’s goal of reaching wider audiences.

However, Tesla put this project on the back burner in 2023 and 2024, shifting its priority to autonomous driving technologies and the Robotaxi concept. This change significantly slowed down the development process of the affordable model.
Current information shows that Tesla did not completely shelve this project, but reshaped it in terms of content and strategy. It was reported that the company is working on a new version that is more simplified and lowered in cost on the Model Y platform.
The release date of the new model, which was initially expected to be introduced in the first half of 2025, has been postponed to the end of 2025 or the first months of 2026 according to the latest information. It is stated that the main reasons for the postponement are the changes made in production planning and the new targets determined in the product strategy.
Tesla is expected to increase its competitive power both in Europe and other developing markets with this new budget-friendly model. So what do you think about this? You can easily share your opinions with us in the comments section below.
