The film stars renowned actor Ryan Gosling. Star Wars: Starfighter, set several years after the final trilogy, tells a unique story independent of the main series. Director Shawn Levy explains, “This isn’t a prequel or a sequel; it’s a new adventure.” This film will be a spin-off from the series.

The film, set for release on May 28, 2027, is directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things. The screenplay is by Jonathan Tropper, creator of the Banshee series.
The film stars Ryan Gosling alongside young actor Flynn Gray. The cast also includes Math Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.
The first film to bring Star Wars back to the big screen after a long hiatus will be The Mandalorian & Grogu, set for release next summer. Furthermore, the film will not adapt the story of the 2001 video game of the same name. Despite sharing the same title, the film is expected to take place after the main series.
The fact that this period in the Star Wars universe has never been seen on the big screen before means the story will revolve around entirely new characters and events. Director Levy states that this independence allows for an original adventure, freeing itself from the franchise’s existing burdens.
