Microsoft has officially acknowledged that the latest cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2 caused performance degradation and stability issues in some games. The company’s statement, published on July 30th, stated that these issues were particularly noticeable in popular online games and corresponded to issues users have been experiencing for a long time.
Windows 11 24H2 Reduced Game Performance
The details of update KB5062660 indicate that Microsoft confirmed the sudden crashes, low FPS, and general instability experienced in games that use the Easy Anti-Cheat infrastructure, such as Fortnite and Counter-Strike.

These problems have been systematically reported by users over the past few months. While initially thought to be caused by NVIDIA graphics card drivers, further investigation has confirmed that the issue stems from Windows’ own updates.
Users experienced not only poor game performance but also overall system behavior. Symptoms such as random reboots, application lags, and inconsistent processor usage indicated that the update negatively impacted not only games but also the overall user experience.
Microsoft announced that it has prepared a hotfix package addressing these issues. However, this patch is not yet automatically distributed. Users must manually download and install the KB5062660 update through Windows Update. The company stated that the fix will be included in the automatic distribution along with future mandatory updates, but did not provide a specific date.
This process demonstrates that the transition to Windows 11 24H2 is still experiencing various technical issues. Microsoft’s official admission is a belated response to a recent surge of user complaints.
The clarification that the performance issues are caused by the operating system update itself, not third-party drivers, has cleared up significant uncertainty, particularly for the gaming community.
