Xiaomi has been on the agenda with its first electric car for a while. The first official image of the electric SUV, expected to be called Xiaomi SU7, appeared in a poster published today. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed the front design of the car.
Xiaomi has started the countdown for SU7
A poster showing part of the SU7 was shared on Weibo, China’s social media platform. The photo highlights the car’s 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels, bright yellow Brembo brake calipers and frameless side mirrors.
The Xiaomi EV Technologies car event will be held on December 28. However, according to the company’s founder Lei Jun, no products or cars will be introduced at the launch. Only electric car technologies will be shown.
The photo posted on Weibo reveals what we can expect from the SU7. The electric SUV will be powered by Brembo brakes and the vents on the front fenders hint at thermal management.
Earlier statements by Lei Jun revealed that the SU7 will be the centerpiece of Xiaomi’s foray into new product categories beyond smartphones. The company wants to create “an ecosystem for people, cars and families”.
Lei Jun also said the SUV will be “reasonably expensive” but aims to deliver an experience that exceeds expectations. This shows that it wants to offer superior features at a competitive price against rivals such as Tesla and BYD.
The car factory is located in an industrial park in Beijing, China’s capital, and covers an area of 720,000 square meters. Earlier images showed six main workshops for battery, assembly, paint, body, die-casting and stamping functions.
