Xiaomi is reportedly preparing to launch its first chipset in over five years. According to a new leak, the upcoming chipset is developed using TSMC’s 4nm architecture. So what will the first processor offer?
Xiaomi’s 4nm chipset is coming
According to the latest leaks from China, the chipset developed by Xiaomi will power flagship devices. It is designed on TSMC’s 4nm N4P node and is expected to offer performance close to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which debuted in 2021.
While the exact specs are still unclear, Xiaomi has partnered with Unisoc and received some chips from the company. Unisoc will develop various chips, especially the 5G modem. Xiaomi and Unisoc also announced last year that they would develop an entry-level 4G chipset.
This is actually not Xiaomi’s first attempt at a processor. The Chinese manufacturer introduced the Surge S1 with the Xiaomi Mi 5c model in 2017. However, the company did not pursue custom chip development further and partnered with Qualcomm and MediaTek.
Xiaomi is rumored to introduce its self-developed 4nm flagship chipset in the first half of 2025. This means it will join the ranks of brands like Apple, Samsung and Huawei, which design their own chips to power flagship devices.
It remains to be seen how the 4nm Xiaomi processor will perform against Snapdragon and Dimensity. It is also unclear which model Xiaomi will place this processor in.
