Xiaomi is moving towards a new structure for its domestic processor project Xring, which it has been working on for a long time. It was reported that the company has established a 1,000-person engineering and R&D team for this special chipset called Xring. The fact that the project is carried out under an independent company roof, outside of Xiaomi, has attracted considerable attention.
Xiaomi is coming with its own processor this time
Work on the Xring chip will not be carried out directly under the Xiaomi brand. The initiative has been positioned as a completely separate company. Thanks to this structure, it is aimed to take precautions against the US-based export restrictions that have increased in recent years against Chinese technology companies.

After Huawei experienced serious problems in chip and software supply as a result of sanctions imposed by the US, Xiaomi management is trying to reduce the risk of a similar scenario.
It was stated that the person managing the project is an executive who previously served as a senior director at Qualcomm. According to the latest information, a working prototype of the Xring chip was tested in March. It is reported that this prototype has a structure very close to the final product.
The independence of the Xring initiative could also be a model that could guide other Chinese manufacturers. Chinese companies, whose access to various technology components is restricted due to US sanctions, are turning to such projects to protect their production processes.
It was also reported that Xiaomi reached the “tape-out” stage in the 3nm production process last year. This means that the chip design is ready for production and all necessary preparations for physical production have been completed.
