The technology world is abuzz with Apple and Samsung’s competition to buy Intel. The two companies allegedly aim to gain a significant advantage over their rivals by owning Intel’s chip manufacturing technology.
Apple and Samsung are competing for Intel’s chip technology
As the race to make smartphone chips more powerful heats up, giants like Apple and Samsung have turned to unlikely partners to gain an edge. According to multiple reports, the two companies are interested in acquiring Intel.
Intel has long led the desktop CPU market, but has not been successful in the mobile space. Still, the company’s chip manufacturing technology could have the technology Apple and Samsung need to push the smartphone envelope.
Especially Apple is struggling to provide chip production capacity from TSMC. But even TSMC may not be able to meet Apple’s 2nm chip timeline. Acquiring Intel could give Apple new resources for advanced manufacturing.
Samsung has also faced challenges in developing its next-generation Exynos chips. Efficiency rates for the 1.4nm architecture are reportedly quite low. Bringing in Intel engineers could help Samsung overcome the problems and reduce its dependence on Qualcomm Snapdragon.
Intel’s acquisition could open a new era in the chipset world. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that prices may vary. As the sole manufacturers of their own chips, Apple and Samsung can be flexible in setting costs.
