There are important developments in the defense industry in our country. Especially recently, many local and national technologies such as Bayraktar TB2 have appeared. We can give as an example the first domestic sonar DÜFAS, which was introduced specifically for the 109th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory. So what exactly does ASELSAN DÜFAS offer?
What does Turkey’s first sonar, ASELSAN DÜFAS, offer?
ASELSAN showcased Turkey’s first domestic and national anti-submarine warfare sonar, DÜFAS, which it developed using entirely domestic and national technologies. DÜFAS was developed under the leadership of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) in line with the needs of the Naval Forces Command.
We can say that ASELSAN DÜFAS is a tool that enables the detection of underwater threats, especially submarines and torpedoes, from long distances. However, taking into account the active and passive sonar features, it is possible to say that it is a truly necessary marine technology.
If we explain this a little more, DÜFAS is equipped to listen to ambient noises in passive sonar mode and detect underwater threats such as torpedoes. However, if a torpedo is detected, it activates countermeasure equipment and eliminates the risk in question.
The features of DÜFAS, the first and only towed active sonar system designed and produced with domestic resources, are as follows;
- It broadcasts acoustic signals through active sonar components,
- It creates an underwater tactical picture by collecting the reflections of the broadcast signal from the targets with passive sonar,
- It enables detection and tracking of underwater threats at long range and with high accuracy.
