Released in 2007, Crysis became a landmark in the gaming world, representing the pinnacle of visual quality at the time. The game’s high system requirements made it almost inaccessible for many players back then. However, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli stated that Crysis was designed as a game ahead of its time, with the aim of ensuring its visuals would remain modern for years to come.
Yerli: “Crysis Should Look Amazing Even Years Later”
In an interview with PC Gamer, Cevat Yerli explained that the game was designed with a vision for the future. The famous producer said, “I wanted to make sure the game never aged. Even when I played it three years later, it should look better than it does today,” emphasizing that the highest graphic settings were designed for PC hardware from 2010 and beyond.

Yerli mentioned that many players tried to run Crysis at the highest settings but noted that the ‘Ultra,’ ‘Very High,’ and ‘High’ graphic settings were actually meant for future systems.
The game’s top-tier graphic quality turned it into a reference point for hardware tests. In 2009, the phrase “But can it run Crysis?” became an internet phenomenon. This phrase, much like the common expression in Turkey, “Can it run GTA?” became an iconic test phrase used to measure the power of newly released graphics cards.
The Crytek team immortalized this joke by adding it as an achievement in Crysis 2. Yerli recalled Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s comment when launching a new graphics card, “Yes, it can run Crysis,” highlighting how this joke resonated throughout the gaming world.
Meanwhile, Crytek has officially announced that the fourth game in the Crysis series is currently in development. However, no new details about the project have been shared yet. The most current option for players to get their Crysis fix is the Crysis Remastered Trilogy available on PC and consoles.
