Hackers are doing everything they can to steal user data. Unfortunately, a new attack was recently added to their arsenal. Hackers uploaded a game containing malware to Steam. The game was available for about a week and was downloaded by hundreds of users.
Beware of PirateFi: If You’ve Downloaded It, Delete It
On February 6, hackers uploaded a pirate-themed survival game called PirateFi to Steam under the name Seaworth Interactive. However, the game contained malware designed to steal users’ browser cookies.

It was even discovered that the screenshots and videos on the Steam page for the game were actually from a different game, Easy Survival RPG. According to information shared by PCMag, some users noticed their antivirus software flagged the game as “Trojan.Win32.Lazzzy.gen” before launching it. This malware is known to lead to the hijacking of online accounts.
Unfortunately, the Trojan-infected PirateFi game remained on Steam for at least a week and was downloaded between 800 and 1,500 times. Valve removed the game from Steam after realizing the issue and sent an informational message to users.
The message read:
“We are sending this message to you because you recently launched the game PirateFi (3476470) on Steam. The developer’s Steam account uploaded versions of the game that contain suspicious malware.
Since you played PirateFi (3476470) with these malicious versions active, it is likely that malicious files have been executed on your computer.
The versions with suspicious malware have been removed from Steam, but we strongly recommend that you perform a full system scan with a trusted or regularly used antivirus program and check your system for any unexpected or newly installed software. You may also want to consider resetting your operating system to ensure no malware remains on your computer.”
