A chatbot developed by Russian technology giant Sberbank has achieved a significant success in the field of artificial intelligence. The model, called GigaChat, attracted great attention by passing a qualification exam prepared for medical students.
How successful is Russian artificial intelligence GigaChat?
The artificial intelligence system called GigaChat scored 82 points in the 100-question written exam. The company also said it successfully completed the oral exam, which included three medical case studies in which it had to diagnose, suggest treatment plans and extra tests.
According to SberBank, GigaChat was able to analyze cases, answer examiners’ questions and provide medical knowledge equivalent to a sixth-year medical student.
Russian developers said they trained GigaChat with a 42 GB medical equipment data set over a six-month period. It was stated that the chatbot trained using anonymized patient data still cannot work completely independently. It was stated that artificial intelligence still cannot replace doctors.
Sergey Zhdanov, Director of Sberbank Health Industry Center, said that GigaChat could form the basis for an artificial intelligence physician assistant. Such a system could help improve access to healthcare and support doctors in their daily work.
Artificial intelligence experts say that such systems only understand what is directly in the training data. If questions are asked outside of this data set, they say they cannot reason and cannot find solutions to diseases.
