Samsung has unveiled two new foldable phones for the Chinese market, the W25 and W25 Flip, and also announced an improved version of its Bixby assistant. The new Bixby, which was first unveiled in July, promises a much more comprehensive experience.
What does the revamped Samsung Bixby offer?
Bixby was first introduced in 2017 with the Samsung Galaxy S8++. However, it struggled to be adopted by users against competitors such as Google Assistant and Siri. In this context, Samsung stopped the active development of Bixby in 2020.
Samsung has unveiled a revamped version of its Bixby assistant alongside the W25 and W25 Flip foldable phones for the Chinese market. This move stands out as part of the company’s strategy to improve its artificial intelligence capabilities.
The revamped Bixby, announced in July, offers significant improvements compared to the virtual assistant found in Samsung’s global smartphone lineup. According to the W25 and W25 Flip product pages, the next-generation Bixby can handle more complex user instructions. It can create content for documents such as PowerPoint and Word and even translate web pages.
The advanced chatbot is better able to understand user intent and can use both text and video in its responses. The W25 Flip also features screen-responsive understanding. For example, when viewing a location, users can ask Bixby to perform a “go here” command.
These improvements to Bixby are made possible by the company’s own language model, which the company has previously confirmed will strengthen the assistant. Of course, the revamped Bixby is currently limited to the China-only W25 and W25 Flip phones.
