Apple is making a big change in iPhones and is preparing to part ways with Qualcomm. This process, which started with the new iPhone 16e, will accelerate with the iPhone 17 series. Here are the critical steps Apple has taken in the modem world…
Apple will use its own Wi-Fi modems in the iPhone 17 series
Apple has taken an important step towards independence from Qualcomm by using its own Wi-Fi chip for the first time in the iPhone 16e model. According to the company, this new modem will be the most efficient connection chip ever used in iPhones. However, Apple’s plans are not limited to this.

According to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the entire iPhone 17 series will feature Apple’s own Wi-Fi modems. This means that Apple will completely disable Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi chips. Previously, it was thought that only the iPhone 17 Air model would use Apple’s own modem, but new information shows that this change will occur in all models.
The modem codenamed C2 developed by Apple will include mmWave support and will be able to reach download speeds up to 6 gigabits. It will also support six carrier aggregation in Sub-6 GHz 5G and eight carrier aggregation in mmWave. These features aim to provide iPhone users with a faster and more stable internet connection.
Apple also plans to completely abandon Qualcomm’s 5G modems within three years. According to Bloomberg’s report, Apple’s own 5G modems will be used in iPhones expected to be introduced in 2026. However, the company is expected to accelerate this process and integrate its own modems into all iPhone 17 models.
While Apple’s move in the modem world increases the company’s control over its ecosystem, it can offer more optimised and efficient connections for users.
