Intel’s $28bn chip factory in Ohio delayed to 2030
Intel has once again postponed the construction process at its new chip factories in Ohio. Construction of the company’s first factory in New Albany will now not be completed until 2030. This date will be at least five years later than the schedule Intel originally set. The commissioning of the first factory is planned between 2030 and 2031. This postponement is directly linked to the company’s efforts to manage costs more carefully.

Intel has invested heavily in recent years, aiming to become a contract chip manufacturer for other companies. However, this expensive move put a strain on the company’s financial balance. For this reason, the company decided to make some changes to align its current projects and factory construction with market demands. Naga Chandrasekaran, the company’s production manager, emphasised the need to complete the project in a financially responsible manner while explaining the changes made.
The construction of the company’s second Ohio factory will be completed in 2031 and is scheduled to start production in 2032. With these postponements, Intel aims to make its production capacity and investments more sustainable. The company’s efforts to reduce costs were reinforced last year with steps such as laying off 15 per cent of the workforce and suspending dividends. Intel plans to reduce its targeted operating expenses for 2025 to $ 17.5 billion.
